Fans Are Just Now Discovering That ‘Black-Ish’ Is In It’s Final Season

Back in May of this year, it was announced that the family sitcom Black-ish was renewed for an eighth season, but fans of the show are just now discovering that it will be the ABC show’s final season.

Created by Kenya Barris, Black-ish was rumored to be cancelled due to low ratings, despite being a fan favorite. The announcement was proceeded by the cancellation of spin-off Mixed-ish in early 2021. While the spin-off Grown-ish seems to be promising with the series in its fourth season on Freeform, whether or not there will be a fifth season is still uncertain.

Barris appeared to be aligned with the decision for Black-ish to come to an end in its eighth season. Earlier this year, he posted an optimistic message to viewers.

“To all the people in the world I love, honor, respect and care for it is both exciting and bittersweet to share that Black-ish has been renewed by ABC for it’s eighth… and final season. In this day and age it is rare to get to decide when your show should come to an end, and we are grateful along with ABC to be able to make this final season exactly what we’d hoped for…”

Yet, when lead actor Anthony Anderson went on the Breakfast Club recently, it was implied that at least he did not want to end the show and wanted to go for 10 seasons, instead of eight.

Meanwhile, Barris, who recently signed a multi-million dollar deal with Netflix, has plenty on his plate. He’s currently working on a Netflix comedy feature starring Eddie Murphy and Jonah Hill, along with a documentary focusing on the relationship between Malcom X and Muhammad Ali, and has a docuseries order from BET Studios.
