Michael Jordan Docuseries ‘The Last Dance’ Bumped Up To April 19 Release

Good news abounds! The release date for the Michael Jordan docuseries The Last Dance has been moved up from its June 2 premiere, announced on Good Morning America on Tuesday.

The Mandalay Sports Media production will now be airing on ESPN starting April 19, a godsend for those who are clamoring for more content to consume during the state mandated Safer-At-Home and lockdown orders.

The move comes as more and more fans have been voicing their displeasure with the disruption of the NBA season due to coronavirus.

“As society navigates this time without live sports, viewers are still looking to the sports world to escape and enjoy a collective experience,” ESPN said in a statement. “We’ve heard the calls from fans asking us to move up the release date for this series, and we’re happy to announce that we’ve been able to accelerate the production schedule to do just that. This project celebrates one of the greatest players and dynasties ever, and we hope it can serve as a unifying entertainment experience to fill the role that sports often play in our lives, telling a story that will captivate everyone, not just sports fans.”

Directed by Jason Hehir, the series charts the rise of the 1990’s Chicago Bulls NBA team, led by arguably the best NBA player of all time Michael Jordan, one of the most notable dynasties in sports history.

The series will also include unseen footage of Chicago Bulls coach Phil Jackson, and players Dennis Rodman, Scottie Pippen and many more. Along with Mandalay Sports Media, the docuseries is a collaboration between Michael Jordan’s Jump 23, ESPN Films and NBA Entertainment.

The series, which will be available outside of the U.S. on Netflix, contains 10 episodes that will be broadcast every Sunday, ending May 17.
