The MouthSoap Exclusive: From Supersaussin To AUSSY1k, There’s A New Hip Hop Villain In Town

By Greg P., Edited by Betty Bema

As a music fan, one of the greatest feelings is discovering an artist before anyone else, especially before they begin to blow up and hit the mainstream. If you think about artists who garnered commercial success of any sort, they all started from nothing and eventually built up a following leading to a massive audience listening to their music.

One of my favorite humble brags is being a very early fan of Childish Gambino. I was listening to Donald Glover’s rapping persona even before his Culdesac mixtape during his I AM JUST A RAPPER era. I digress. Aussy1k just might have what it takes to ascend to the heights that so many have coveted.

Hailing from Columbus, Ohio, Aussy1k has multiple powers. The triple threat is a rapper, producer, and graphic designer — catch him on the right day, he has a hint of know-how when it comes to high fashion, too. With a growing discography that includes his innovative project #Supersaussin1.0, Aussy1k is not afraid to embark on unmarked territories, in fact he’s already planning on it.

Let’s begin with #Supersaussin 1.0. Released in Fall 2020, Aussy1k’s 13-track album is a perfect introduction to his style and delivers a glimpse into his potential musical evolution. When asked what exactly is “Supersaussin,” Aussy1k peaks curiosity with his answer.

“Supersaussin is a more swaggier version of AUSSY1k music, an alter ego,” he told The MouthSoap’s Betty Bema.

Throughout the #Supersaussin1.0 project, listeners will find an artist who dabbles in experimental styles leaving music listeners with some sub-cult like bangers and, most important, fun kinetic energy. Standouts include “Band County,” “Type Shit,” and “Flavor Town.”

“Band County” rides a If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late type beat with Aussy1k’s signature braggadocious cyphers brimming on the sonically pleasing song. “Type Shit” featuring Dutch Flvme has an explosive sounding bass synth with some deep auto-tuned vocals on the hook.  Reminiscent of an early entry in Kid Cudi’s career, “Flavor Town” mesmerizes with a deep vocalization that begs of a replay.

From his performance to the production, the raw grit of #Supersaussin1.0 is an undeniable start of a possibly lustrous career, yet it leaves room for expectation — a good thing considering how rappers who reached their peak too soon are often dismissed by the very ones that used to support them.

While he has a love for graphic design and finds himself often balancing his natural gift with music, Aussy1k fans can expect more coming from the artist real soon.

“I have a few projects in store,” Aussy1k told Betty Bema. “Every quarter of the year, I’m dropping. What people can expect from my upcoming music — more dark vibes, more sunshine music, real music, trill music.”

#Supersaussin1.0 is available to stream on Spotify, Apple Music, and Soundcloud.
