Second Installment Of Rhys Frake-Waterfield’s ‘Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey’ Bleeds Into Theaters Spring 2024

A sequel to the viral, fan-encouraged horror Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey is on the horizon. Jagged Edge Productions and ITN Distribution deliver Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2, the continuation of the slasher film based on animated characters curated by A.A. Milne.

Matthew Leslie wrote the script in which the synopsis reads, “Deep within the 100-Acre-Wood, a destructive rage grows as Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, Owl, and Tigger find their home and their lives endangered after Christopher Robin revealed their existence. Not wanting to live in the shadows any longer, the group decides to take the fight to the town of Ashdown, home of Christopher Robin, leaving a bloody trail of death and mayhem in their wake. Winnie and his savage friends will show everyone that they are deadlier, stronger, and smarter than anyone could ever imagine and get their revenge on Christopher Robin, once and for all.

There’s some cast changes, Scott Chambers plays Christopher Robin, Ryan Oliva is Winnie-the-Pooh, and Eddy MacKenzie is Piglet. The original Christopher Robin was portrayed by Nikolai Leon, while Craig David Dowsett and Chris Cordell played the roles of Winnie-the-Pooh and Piglet, respectively.

It looks like intellectual property use for the character Tigger is cleared, as the zany animal will be portrayed by Lewis Santer. Owl (Marcus Massey) also makes his debut in the sequel.

Rhys Frake-Waterfield, who returns as director and writer, recognizes a market for fun, horror reimagining, and he’s taking the genre by the horns. The self-made, English director has opened a can of worms of a franchise with rumored horror renditions of Peter Pan’s Neverland and Bambi on the itinerary for future release.

The film had a lukewarm reception from audiences and an even harsher admonishment from critics. Audiences rated the film 50% on Rotten Tomatoes, a slightly more optimistic rating than industry critics who gave the film a weak 3%.

Still, Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey bled onto the scene as an indie film with a modest crew, and many of the viewers who supported the fan-made trailer that started the wildfire buzz for the film understood its appeal — it’s so bad, it’s good. Distributed by Fathom Events, the first installment went on to garner $1.75M at the domestic box office, and another $3.2M overseas. Not bad for a film panned by critics.

Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 will be in theaters March 26.
