Amuka’s Spunky Charisma Combined With The Mellifluous Production Wizardry of Grapefruit Sound Lab Makes For A Kinetic “Love Cards”

A pandemic is not strong enough to stop the immaculate creation of music from powerhouse electronic music producer Robert Cotnoir of Grapefruit Sound Lab and chart-topping vocalist Amuka.  The New Jersey based musical cohort released the adrenaline infused single “Love Cards” leading the full-length album Eight Days Across America

Arriving on the music scene with a cosign from funk legend George Clinton, Amuka inserts a spunky charisma that complements the mellifluous wizardry of Cotnoir’s production.

Penned by Cotnoir, the producer uses eccentric synth sounds reminiscent of the classic rock and disco era.  Paired with the electrifying vocals of Amuka, whose sound resembles that of pop-rock era Tina Turner, the result is an unforgettable, uptempo melodic delivery that’s fun to the ears and, if you’re watching the video, pleasurable to the eyes.

Inspired by the Trump Cards of the Tarot deck called the Major Arcana, “Love Cards” spells out a dizzying, cautionary tale embroidered with life lessons derived from “twenty-one love cards.”  Where Cotnoir passes the baton to a more-than-ready Amuka, real name Sheila Brody, she picks up the pace, riding the rippling waves of the electronic palpitations that consist of a consortium of drums, synthesizers, and electric guitars.

Amuka sings, “Twenty-one love cards one more time | With the world taken over by organized crime | We sigh simply with the signs all around | We got twenty-one love cards to feed our nervous breakdown | Twenty-one love cards laid out before | With our whole lives for living and they’re coming for more | It’s as if these words have never been brokered | When the men in charge got twenty-one jokers.”

Instead of focusing on the negative, Cotnoir flipped the message on its head to focus on the positive.  With philosophical lyrics by Cotnoir, who has spent a lifetime studying Tarot cards, he explains that “Love Cards” is about “growing into it, maturing and being centered and whole.”

Prior to pursuing music, Cotnoir built a career as a top-rated, award-winning motion picture music editor where he would translate theatrical storytelling into paralleling musical narrations.

Later, he would join forces with Amuka, who would carve out her own lane with six Top 10 singles landing on the Billboard charts, including the No. 1 hit “Appreciate Me,” “My Man,” “Craving,” “U Ain’t That Good,” “Destination (We Are The Ones),” and “I Want More (Cling On To Me).”  Together, the pairing has blossomed into a kinetic dynamo, producing singles “A Song About Freedom” and “Don’t Fall For It” for the Grapefruit Sound Lab album Eight Days Across America
