Wiz Khalifa Levels Up By Apologizing To The DJ Community For Poppy Nightclub Incident

In a teachable moment in hip hop, the Breakfast Club’s DJ Envy brought together Wiz Khalifa and DJ Drama to discuss the fallout of an onstage confrontation that went viral.

In a viral video, the “Black and Yellow” rapper is seen standing next to DJ Mike Danger, and host, MC Tron, on stage as he berates them in front of a large crowd at Poppy nightclub in Los Angeles. Apparently frustrated by the unprofessionalism of the DJ who was not correctly queuing music from his first independent solo album, Multiverse, released July 29, Khalifa proceeded to aggressively confront the men, at one point knocking off the hat of DJ Mike Danger.

An isolated issue with one DJ has grown into an issue with a segment of the DJ community, all because of social media. The viral video sparked a small movement of DJs to boycott Khalifa’s music, including Houston’s own OG Ron C, and a verbal reprimanding from the legendary DJ Capri.

A few days later, Khalifa realized the err of his ways and is issuing a public apology for losing his temper and disrespecting the DJ and host that night. DJ Drama, who has worked with Khalifa for years in the industry, attended the Breakfast Club interview to provide support and clarification on the behalf of the DJ community. At the top of the interview, Khalifa went directly for an apology.

“I want to apologize to all the DJs and the entire DJ community for my behavior,” Khalifa said. “I do realize that it was a bit much and I’m a big enough man to be like, ‘Yo’, that shouldn’t happen, that shouldn’t go down. That’s not how business gets handled and that’s not how you get your point across. So, I apologize to anybody who I offended, sincerely.”

Khalifa explained the situation in which he was booked at Poppy to do a set of five songs for his album release. As the night went on, a number of issues arose with timing, song mixes, and queuing, making for an unprofessional DJ experience. Khalifa says he initially spoke with the DJ nicely about tidying up the set, but nothing changed. That’s when Khalifa let his emotions get the best of him.

Khalifa denies physically fighting the DJ and has personally reached out to him to apologize. However, DJ Mike Danger has yet to respond. DJ Envy also reached out to the DJ to no avail.

Wiz Khalifa’s album, Multiverse, released on Taylor Gang Entertainment, is available on streaming platforms now.
