Should There Be More Safety Guidelines In Place At Strip Clubs? Exotic Dancer Falls From Pole And Breaks Jaw

It was supposed to be just another night of work for exotic dancer Genea Sky, but instead she ended up with a fractured jaw, broken teeth and a sprained ankle.

She was dancing on a pole that was the height of a three-story building when she lost her grip and fell down to the stage floor.

Genea immediately got up and started dancing again until she left the stage. But, the injuries that she sustained are now requiring her to have surgery.

The incident went viral through 50 Cent’s Instagram page, accumulating over 3 million views. Genea went on social media to address all of the posts regarding her accident.

“I didn’t plan on posting about this situation at all,” she said. “But obviously the video has gone viral.”

In tears she continued, “I’m just really overwhelmed by the messages…I just wanted to let you guys know that I’m having a hard time — but I’m okay… It could’ve been a lot worse.”

There is a GoFundMe account set up to help with medical expenses. The fund’s goal of $20,000 has already been exceeded with over one thousand donors giving $21,874.

Genea’s incident raises serious concerns for the exotic dancer community. Should there be safety regulations and guidelines that prevent accidents like these from happening in the strip club community?

Genea was dancing on the pole at an alarming height without any safeguards. There were no medics on the scene, no padding on the stage to break her fall, no one to assist her immediately after the fall, and she didn’t have a helmet, knee pads or even a rope attached to her to ensure her safety.

Any trained professional who does sports or aerial dancing have safeguards. It’s time that the strip clubs be held to a higher standard.
