Rihanna And Jack Dorsey Contribute $4.2 Million To Help Victims Experiencing Domestic Violence During “Stay At Home” Orders

One of the craziest realities about this whole coronavirus situation is that there are some people that are really suffering not from boredom or inconvenience, but via the hands of their own loved ones.

With that said, Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation is advocating against domestic violence by partnering with Twitter founder Jack Dorsey to contribute $4.2 million towards housing domestic violence victims in Los Angeles. The funds will go towards providing food, housing and counseling to victims.

Typically rearing its head around the holidays, domestic violence usually occurs when families spend more time together. However, state and government orders advising people to stay in their homes has become a perfect storm for abuse victims.

It doesn’t help that people are now dealing with unemployment and mounting bills. Domestic violence has significantly increased since the worldwide spread of COVID-19.

In recent news, the Secretary General Antonio Guterres made a call to action on Twitter.

“I urge all governments to put women’s safety first as they respond to the pandemic,” he posted.

Some of the tactics of abuse that are being used during lockdown measures include constant surveillance, demanding rules, restriction of freedom, verbal abuse, psychological games, isolation from networks and/or physical violence.

Rihanna and Dorsey’s donations will help alleviate shelters from turning down victims and their children that are currently dealing with this crisis. This donation is only one of many that both Rihanna and Dorsey have contributed to help with the challenges of the coronavirus battle.
