Mary J. Blige Hints At Memoir Detailing Unknown Facts About Her Life

It’s no secret that R&B singer Mary J. Blige has a storied past, as we all do, full of life-defining moments that contributed to her evolution as the cultural icon she’s become. Her story has even been told through the Prime Video documentary Mary J. Blige’s My Life.

Now, the “Testimony” singer will detail her life in a new memoir, per an announcement she made during an interview with morning show The Breakfast Club. Upon host Charlamagne asking her whether she will open up more about her childhood, the Super Bowl performer responded affirmatively.

“I have a memoir coming soon that I’m working on. I let people know a lot of stuff that they didn’t know,” Blige said. “It’s supposed to come soon. It’s supposed to come this month. I had to pull it back because I want to make sure its right. Doing so much, I want to have the time to get it right.”

Blige has been working on the untitled memoir for quite some time. She admits the experience has aided her in alleviating things she needed to get off of her chest.

“I felt great,” Blige continued. “I felt really light and sometimes I felt like crying. It all surfaced again.”

From Blige’s time living in the Schlobohm housing projects in Yonkers, New York to her rise in the music industry, the memoir may possibly address intimate details regarding self-love, domestic violence, sexual abuse, drug abuse, and the men in Mary’s life. Hopefully, it will also detail her rumored smoke with Faith Evans, the lessons she’s learned dealing with public criticism (especially during the Burger King ordeal), and transitioning to acting. There’s so much to be covered.

Many authors have attempted to cover the legendary crooner’s life, including Missy Scout Moss who released the unofficial Mary J. Blige: The Biography of America’s Biggest RnB HipHop Singer on Feb. 16. However, the real story is the best story, so hearing the story directly from the source is all the reason to anticipate Blige’s upcoming memoir.
