Lizzo Nabbed To Perform At The Song Breaker Awards, First Awards Show In Virtual Reality

Lizzo is booked and busy. Not only is she working on the release of her album Special, arriving July 15, but she’s also parlaying her way into the metaverse.

Houston’s very own has been nabbed to perform at the 2nd Annual Song Breaker Awards via the virtual world of Roblox, according to an announcement from Logitech. Roblox, a top online entertainment platform for youth, provides immersive 3D multiplayer gaming experiences curated by a global community of developers. The appearance will be her first venture into the metaverse.

“I’m excited to be making my metaverse debut with Logitech and to be performing ‘Special,’ which is a song that means so much to me,” Lizzo said in a statement. “As a musician and creator, I love that Logitech Song Breaker Awards show recognizes the unique talent of all creators, and how each of them are making an impact on pop culture and music.”

The Song Breaker Awards recognizes creators who have shaped pop culture through dance challenges, trends, and memes on social media platforms.

Lizzo’s metaverse debut is the second time a major Black female artist has flirted with virtual reality. Fellow Houston-bred artist, Megan Thee Stallion, announced at the top of the year that she would be launching a virtual reality concert series with AmazeVR, making her the first artist to do so.

Lizzo’s appearance on the awards show will take place Saturday, April 30 on Roblox.
