Heavyweight Champ’s Life Story Covered In Feature Film ‘Big George Foreman’ [Trailer]

There’s tons of films that celebrate the world of boxing and some of the trailblazers of the dangerous sport.  The stories of Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson have been famously parsed across film and television along with fictional boxer characters such as that created by the Rocky and Creed franchises, but except for an occasional mention or reference in these films, George Foreman has surprisingly never been the main subject of a feature film.

Thanks to the gracious efforts of Sony Pictures, Affirm Films, Mandalay Pictures, and scribes Dan Gordon, Frank Baldwin, and George Tillman Jr., who will also direct, the two-time world heavyweight champion is now getting that opportunity.

Big George Foreman: The Miraculous Story of the Once and Future Heavyweight Champion of the World covers the life and times of the professional boxer.  A trailer released Feb. 1st takes viewers on Foreman’s journey from an impoverished kid struggling to survive in the South to the trained boxing machine that competed against some of the greatest fighters in the world.

The nearly three-minute clip also reveals a refreshing take on Foreman’s story by delving into his personal life as he becomes a pastor and endures many impasses before becoming the oldest boxer at 45 to obtain the heavyweight champion title.

Khris Davis (Space Jam: A New Legacy) plays Foreman in the film, starring alongside Forest Whitaker, Sonja Sohn, Lawrence Gilliard Jr., Deion Smith, Sullivan Jones, and Billy Slaughter.  Whitaker portrays Foreman’s trainer, Doc Broadus, a role that was originally rumored to be designated to the late Michael K. Williams.

George Foreman is executive producer of the feature, along with Clouds producer Wendy Williams.  Peter Guber and David Zelon are aboard as producers.

Big George Foreman will be in theaters April 28, 2023.
