Flo Milli Applies Pressure, Proving She’s Here To Stay On Sophomore Effort, ‘You Still Here, Ho?’

On the mainstream registrar, the female rap game may have the same players in rotation, but just around the riverbend lies a sizzling class of up-and-coming rappers that are waiting for a spin. Flo Milli is one of those promising masters of ceremonies who demonstrates her hunger in the sophomore effort, You Still Here, Ho?

The 17-track album is hallmarked by an intro and outro from the notorious reality queen, Tiffany Pollard, also known as “New York” from her days on VH1’s Flavor of Love. The guest appearance seems odd until Flo Milli delves into her braggadocious, confident persona — clearly something she shares with the ambitious H.B.I.C.

The high replay value of the album makes it challenging to pick the standout tracks. However, if forced to choose, “Conceited,” “Big Steppa,” “Come Outside,” bonus track “Ice Baby,” “F.N.G.M.,” and “Bed Time” are all bangers, and in that order. One element these tracks share is Flo Milli’s confident bravado laced over menacing trap-infused and pop beats — by the way, she deserves a round of applause for selecting undeniable beats, one after another.

Flo Milli marks her territory on the aggressive fight anthem, “Come Outside.” Equipped with a catchy hook and rap-sing ebbs and flows, Flo Milli beats her chest in the robust invite to her hands. She follows with the Missy Elliott-esque “Bed Time,” spurning out rap lyrics in an effortless flow thats matched by pulsating, electronic and synthesizer sounds.

Then, there’s the blow-your-speakers-out, bass-heavy “Conceited,” a track that permeates the memory for Flo Milli’s fun-natured roast session on her enemies, while simultaneously patting herself on the back. It’s truly “so fabulous.” The flex continues into another banger, “Big Steppa,” a song crafted for viral success and the soundtrack to people stepping out in their best threads or just simply feeling themselves.

In an ode to her predecessors, Flo Milli’s “F.N.G.M.” celebrates different flavors of women over a mixed sample of Junior Mafia’s “Get Money” and what sounds like a short clip of David Banner’s “Like A Pimp.” Bonus tracks include “Roaring 20s” and the cold, head-shaking solid, “Ice Baby,” another banger deserving of single treatment.

Flo Milli is stingy with the features, only collaborating with Babyface Ray on the smooth, rhythm and pop bop, “Hottie,” and with Rico Nasty on the piano and bass-ridden, nursery rhyme style song, “Pay Day.” Again, the whole album has significant replay value as it balances rap tracks with its pop counterparts.

Born Tamia Monique Carter, the “Beef FloMix” rapper started taking rap seriously in 2018, often posting freestyle sessions on her Instagram profile. Flo Milli is inspired by heavy hitters Nicki Minaj and Young Thug, where she shares in the colorful genre assortment of hip pop and trap music. She’s actively championed in her peers, collaborating with the likes of Tay Money, Taylor Girlz, and Rico Nasty, to name a few.

The rising rap star is currently on tour, making stops in Philadelphia, Dallas, Houston, and Atlanta as a part of the Adult Swim Festival Block Party and Femme It Forward Presents Girls Just Wanna Have Fun tours.
