Drakeo The Ruler Stabbed At ‘Once Upon A Time In LA’ Music Festival, Dies At 28

UPDATE: Although Drakeo was reportedly in critical condition and expected to survive, several sources, including Rolling Stone and TMZ, are now reporting that the rapper has succumbed to his injuries. He was 28 years old.

Drakeo is another example of how the streets eats its own. Yeah, people can criticize him for partaking in the shenanigans. Ultimately, it’s the choices that we make that lead us down certain paths.

However, there’s a segment of society that suffers from the marginalization of poverty and inefficient resources from the beginning. So, when someone from the hood makes a breakthrough, outruns all the statistics, and beats the odds, all while playing the hand that they were dealt, kindred spirits can relate to the pain and triumph of that struggle. That’s why every time a young prodigy with potential falls, it’s a devastating loss for the hip hop community.

Despite all the trolling that heartless social media has embarked on in the past, from a group of people (The MouthSoap) who saw beyond the money, jewelry, designer clothes, and drugs, rest in peace Drakeo.

Earlier Report: Drakeo the Ruler has done a lot in his young life, but he will arguably forever be legendary for his soul snatching 2016 flow on “Impatient Freestyle” and making an entire album over a prison phone. And that’s just the way it is. Someone is trying to take him out, though.

Appearing at The Once Upon A Time in LA music festival at Exposition Park in Los Angeles, a fight broke out backstage and ended up with the rapper seriously injured. The Los Angeles Times confirmed that Drakeo, born Darrell Caldwell, was attacked by a group of people and stabbed in the neck just before 9 p.m. on Saturday night, when authorities were called. He was rushed to a nearby hospital and is currently in critical condition.

At the time, Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent were set to take the stage next, but never made it on. Festival organizers announced the closure of the festival around 10 p.m. The Los Angeles Police Department released a statement confirming the closure.

“There has been an incident at the Once Upon A Time in LA festival at the Banc of California. The festival has concluded early. LAPD will be in the area assisting CHP w/ the investigation. Media staging is on the South Lawn at Bill Robertson south of Exposition,” the statement reads.

At the time of the incident, word of the incident was spreading amongst fans.

Once Upon A Time In LA is presented by Live Nation, Snoop Dogg, and Bobby Dee. Headliners included Ice Cube, The Game, YG, Snoop Dogg, and Al Green. The three-stage, all day festival features some of West Coast’s most legendary artists, such as Too Short, DJ Quik, Warren G, E-40, Suga Free, Mack 10, and Xzibit. The website indicates that security was in place and that everyone attending would receive a “full body pat-down and magnetometer screening before entry.”
