Documentary Uncovers The Rift Between Frenemies Kanye West And Fashion Designer Virgil Abloh

An online debate has been brewing about the relationship between international music star Kanye West and acclaimed fashion designer Virgil Abloh.

Although the news of Abloh being hired on as the creative designer for Louis Vuitton, in spite of West championing the high-end brand for most of his music career, is old news fans are just now coming to the conclusion that Abloh stole West’s dream job from right underneath him.

Of course, West is doing very well without the luxury brand with his own creation in the Yeezy empire. Once claiming to be in debt by $53 million, West is now heading to billionaire status as his annual income banks $150-plus million a year, according to Forbes. To top that, the music producing rapper still has 100 percent ownership of Yeezy.

Abloh, who was once an intern and later a creative director for West, is not doing too bad either. He founded popular high-end streetwear brand Off-White. In 2019, Off-White was acquired by luxury online retailer Farfetch through the purchase of parent company New Guards Group for a reported $675 million.

Abloh still owns the Off-White trademark and controls the company. So, at the end of the day, both West and Abloh are doing well.

Produced by serial YouTuber JakeZeeman, the documentary Virgil Abloh: How Kanye’s Apprentice Stole His Dream Job is a 22-minute exploration of the professional relationship between West and Abloh and the controversial idea that Abloh worked his way up the ladder in the fashion industry only to take away what West had been vying for most of his career.

Some argue that Abloh was right to take the Louis Vuitton job and start his own brand as they speculate that West held him down career wise. Others felt like Abloh didn’t show the best loyalty to his mentor when he dipped out on him and didn’t bring West along with him.
