Aisha Tyler Onboard To Direct Psych Thriller Pic ‘Silent John’ With Hidden Empire Film Group Producing

Aisha Tyler is teaming up with Hidden Empire Film Group for the new psych thriller pic Silent John. The talk show host and actress will be joining the project as director, according to an exclusive from Deadline. The film was developed by David Jacobson, John Doherty and Tyler.

Tyler reunites with scribe Emmett Hughes, who she worked with on the dramatic feature Axis. Penned by Hughes, the socially conscious psychological thriller Silent John is the exploratory story of a man who loses his sense of realism in a sea of unholy fanaticism that leaves him juggling a thin line between faith, the church, and madness.

A statement from Hidden Empire Film Group reads:

“In the film, a young couple comes to stay at a rustic B&B in Ireland in the weeks before their first child is born. At first charmed by their Irish host, they soon discover he and his mute groundskeeper share a viciously harrowing secret. Soon they cannot discern friend from foe, and their dream getaway becomes a nightmare they cannot escape.”

Tyler will also be producing, alongside Hughes under his banner Hot Machine Films, Roxanne Avent Taylor of Hidden Empire Film Group, and Doherty of Artistry Collective. Director Deon Taylor will be onboard as executive producer.

“I am thrilled to be working with the killer team at HEFG,” Tyler said in a statement. “Their enthusiasm and passion for this project is energizing and it’s gratifying they share my vision for this story. Silent John is a terrifying portrait of institutional abuse and its lifelong effects on the psyche; I look forward to Roxanne’s creative producing intensity, along with my brilliant producing partners Emmett Hughes, John Doherty and David Jacobson, helping to bring this riveting film to life.”

Taking place in Ireland, Silent John is expected to start production in the Summer of 2021.
