The Incredible Jumping Tesla Stunt Inspires Copycats

In mid-March, a group of content creators met up on a steep hill overlooking the Los Angeles neighborhood Echo Park to watch a Tesla attempt to accelerate into the air. YouTube vlogger Alex Choi was one of the attendees who captured the incident on his smartphone.

Before the stunt, Choi is shown meeting with other Tesla drivers and car enthusiasts in a shopping mall parking lot. This was minutes before the Tesla drivers executed their very own night parade. As the Tesla drive ended, Choi claimed that a random attendee volunteered to show him the location where YouTuber David Dobrik “jumped” his Tesla.

Once at the top of the Echo Park hill, the unknown driver, along with some passengers are seen flying down the hill in the Tesla Model S. The Tesla conveniently crashes into the back of a parked Subaru Forester and demolishes several trash bins. No one was hurt. However, the Los Angeles Police Department is still looking for the driver of the Tesla for a possible fine.

“The rental driver of a black 2018 Tesla S-BLM decided to perform a dangerous stunt, at Baxter Street and Alvarado Street, where he collided with several trash cans and two parked vehicles,” said a statement from the LAPD. “There is currently no description of driver, and the Tesla was abandoned at scene. A misdemeanor hit-and-run was completed, and detectives will be following up with the renter.”

The insane stunt has inspired copycats who are now casing the area for their chance at viral fame. Recently, a video of a BMW performing the same stunt surfaced on social media.

To up the ante, the BMW attempts to fly over a line of fire before carouseling down the 30-foot incline. The publisher of the video claims that the stunt occurred weeks before the Tesla incident, but a few sources dispute that given the date the video was published.
