‘Tales’ Director Leon Lozano Embarrassingly Bares All In Netflix Short Film ‘Prom Night Flex’

Tales director Leon Lozano bares all in a Netflix short film about one of the most embarrassing experiences of his life.  Prom Night Flex rewinds back to 1995, the year of Lozano’s senior prom at Fremont High School in Oakland, CA.

Dateless on the rainy night, Lozano sets off to make the best of the situation by memorializing the event with his video camcorder.  While the actual prom went off without a hitch, the same couldn’t be said for the next day.

The 7-minute documentary is a relatable tale that gives viewers insight to ‘90s culture and the sentiments at that time.  Lozano masterfully establishes a syllabus of the era by briefly inserting references to the cultural lingo, skin color stereotypes, toxic masculinity, and the inevitable hazing or bullying that is synonymous with high school.

In spite of these heavy topics swiftly easing its way in the short documentary, Lozano manages to lighten the atmosphere with his tongue-in-cheek narration and accommodating subtext that brings viewers a humorous take on what could have been a very traumatic experience for any teen.  The result, viewers are left begging for more.

Prom Night Flex is written and directed by Lozano.  Mixed with actual footage and re-enactments, the cast stars Lozano, Marvin Sadler, Jackie Green, and Maureen Butler.

The short is produced by Son of Oakland Productions in association with The Wake Up Experience.  Lozano produces alongside Garrett E.B. Thompson.

Prom Night Flex is available on Netflix now or watch on YouTube below.
