Solange, A NYU Global Trailblazer Honoree, Is Mother Earth In Louis XIII Cognac “Believe In Time” Campaign

Solange is Mother Earth in the new Mati Diop directed “Believe in Time” for Louis XIII Cognac Grande Champagne. The Grammy Award-winning songstress from Houston narrated the visual experience magnified by Guo Pei as she eloquently describes the creation of the universe and humankind from the perspective of time in its natural element as raw material.

“I’m a strong believer that the space and time surrounding our work is just as important as the work itself,” said Solange in a statement. “The question of time is always in my container of consciousness while creating. In most of my own work, whether music, film or sculpture, I try to give thought on how future generations will discover it.”

Solange is also responsible for the score and the selection of the award-winning director Diop, who was recognized at the Cannes Film Festival Grand Prix for her work on international romance Atlantique, becoming the first Black woman to be considered in the feature film category by the festival.

The short promo film is executive produced by Laure Salgon and Jules de Chateleux of Division, Amanda Van Caneghem of the agency Fred & Farid Los Angeles, Fabrice Damolini of The Mill Paris, and Sasha Alderson of Beijing Eye.

On Instagram, the “Cranes in the Sky” singer gave fans a glimpse of the photo shoot headed by Manuel Obadia-Willis and Renell Madrano, who has photographed Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige, and Issa Rae.

Solange has been off the radar recently, doing a majority of her work behind the scenes. Her latest project is Saint Heron, a creative agency serving as a conversational platform for people of color.

On March 8, the songwriter and her venture will be honored for creative and artistic excellence with the 2022 NYU Global Trailblazer Award in celebration of International Women’s Day.
