‘Snowfall’ Actor Malcolm M. Mays Set To Write Reboot For ‘New Jack City’

Filmmaker and actor Malcolm M. Mays is set to pen the script for the reboot of New Jack City. The reboot will be produced by Doug McHenry and Bill Gerber. The film has yet to find a director.

The Warner Bros. film, originally released in 1991, collected $48M at the box office and became an instant urban classic that still is referred to today.

The 1991 version had a bonafide cast starring Wesley Snipes, Allen Payne, Chris Rock, Ice-T, Judd Nelson, Vanessa Williams and Bill Nunn. New Jack City is about an egotistical crime lord that riddles his neighborhood with drugs and violence, which leads to him and his team being investigated by an ambitious police officer.

Mays is in high demand. He has several projects in the works, including Overbrook Entertainment flick Flint, which will feature T.I. He’s also been on two seasons of John Singleton’s Snowfall.
