Sam Levinson’s Mystifying Relationship Drama ‘Malcolm & Marie’ Stars John David Washington & Zendaya, With Kid Cudi Attached As Executive Producer [Trailer]

Director Sam Levinson unleashes the official trailer for the mystifying relationship drama Malcolm & Marie. Sure to be a must-watch, the pic consists of only two actors and welcomes recording artist Kid Cudi with his first executive producer credit for a feature film.

“We made some cultural history, I think,” Washington said in an interview with MTV News. “I’m very excited to have the producers that we’ve had on there. In particular, I’m thinking about the African American women.”

Starring new Hollywood’s most promising actors John David Washington as Malcolm and Zendaya as Marie, the black and white trailer shows the couple returning home from a movie premiere to discover some riveting truths that tugs at the strength of the relationship.

Filled with moments of dramatic expedition into the psychological effects of a tainted love, the trailer hints at an underlying issue; perhaps Malcom, who is a filmmaker, forgot to thank his wife at the premiere or Marie is still reeling over a possible slip up in the relationship. These are all assumptions, of course, but that’s how intriguing the trailer is — it makes you want to play the movie out in your head before it’s even out.

Levinson, who also penned the script for the pic, and Zendaya have collaborated before on the dark drama Euphoria. The Little Lamb production, in association with FotoKem, is executive produced by Aaron L. Gilbert, Will Greenfield, and Kid Cudi, with Levinson, Washington and Zendaya joining as producers. The music, which seems to be an essential aspect of the simplistic film, is by Labrinth, with cinematography by Marcell Rév.

Malcolm & Marie is slated to be released Feb. 5, 2021 on Netflix.
