Rising Star Doja Cat Drops New Music Visual And Gives Insightful Interview

In the world of Hip Hop and R&B, finding female talent can be as tough as finding a needle in a hay stack. Of course, some of the same names are in rotation with the rise of the Cardi Bs and so forth. However, to this day, there is a disproportionate amount of male representation in both music genres. It makes the music game that much less fun.

Luckily, singer and rapper Doja Cat, born Amala Zandile Dlamini, is making her imprint on the music scene. Doja Cat delivers a colorful, unique and what some describe as a psychedelic aspect to her music.

It’s exciting to see an artist that doesn’t take themselves so seriously and brings boldness and spice. Stars like Beyonce and Lizzo are surely creating an entertainment environment of body acceptance. Doja Cat is continuing that message, thick thighs and all. One of the best things about Doja Cat is that she embraces her voluptuous body and has a healthy appreciation for food. She often pays homage to food in her music videos where it’s not unusual to see bananas and popsicles.

Her single ‘Juicy’ featuring rapper Tyga is all about one of her favorite body parts, her booty. She went on Genius to break down the lyrics. “I like butts and thinking about butts, so I made a booty song,” she told Genius. “To keep my figure looking the way it does, I have a diet of 2lb. lobsters, Chick-Fil-A, chicken kale caesar salads, Oreos and Capri Suns. I don’t eat fruit.”

‘Juicy’ landed at No. 83 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the first time Doja Cat has reached that chart.

Doja Cat is interesting to hear and look at and her clout has steadily grown over the years. However, she has also been embroiled in controversy when a hater went back into her social media history to reveal some homophobic sentiments from Doja Cat. Despite apologizing profusely, Doja Cat has an inset of haters which are dead set on ending her career. But, for every thumbs down she receives on her videos, there are even more fans supporting her work.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Doja Cat has been pursuing her music career since she was 16-years-old making her first music upload to SoundCloud in 2013. It didn’t take long for her to get picked up by RCA Records, which signed her to a contract in 2014. By 2018, she started to get mainstream buzz with looks from the likes of Chris Brown, Katy Perry and J. Cole after releasing her viral hit “Mooo!” She would then drop her first studio album Amala, which landed at No. 20 on the Billboard U.S. R&B charts and No. 12 on the Australian music sales charts.

Her latest single “Bottom Bitch”, currently trending at No. 10 on YouTube, is a Hip Hop, pop tune about friendship that incorporates street prostitution terminology, yet Doja Cat makes it all so fun and friendly sounding.

She is scheduled to perform at The Midway in San Francisco on Thursday, Oct. 31 and the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX on Saturday, Nov. 2.
