Raekwon Says Ghostface Had “Bagged” The One And Only Aaliyah

Aaliyah had appeal from the very moment she stepped on the music scene. As she matured, that appeal grew even stronger. It was the side bang mysteriously covering one of her seductive eyes, her perfect caramel skin further revealed by playful midriff baring outfits, and her obvious love for the merging of hip hop and R&B.

It wasn’t a surprise when after her tragic passing in 2001 several men in her life started professing their love for the music royal. Timbaland, someone who produced a lot of Aaliyah’s projects, claimed he was so madly in love with her that he purposely chose his wife because she looked like her. Those who had a secret crush on Aaliyah were endless. From Ginuwine to Playa’s Static, to JAY-Z.

Raekwon surprised fans when he revealed that his Wu-Tang music peer Ghostface Killah had “bagged” Aaliyah. Raekwon first revealed the unknown detail in his new autobiography From Staircase to Stage: The Story of Raekwon and the Wu-Tang Clan, released Nov. 30. Later, DJ Vlad would confirm the information in an interview.

“Yeah, he broke my heart with that, man, ’cause you know, rest in peace Aaliyah,” Raekwon said. “Aaliyah’s beautiful, you know. You know, word, Ghost had bagged her.”

Although there’s no visual evidence to support this claim, Aaliyah never was the one to back down from a challenge. She definitely had a type — powerful and cocky. Aaliyah’s brief ordeal with the disgraced super talent R. Kelly and later, the ever-so rambunctious Damon Dash gave further insight on how the reserved flirt was able to bring out different sides to these men.

“I used to talk to Ghost a lot about like, ‘Yo, word, you bagged that?” Raekwon said. “Bring her to the lab [studio]. You know, bring some friends over, whatever the case may be. And one day, I guess I took a nap that day and I’m walking through the crib. Next thing I know, I see him and Aaliyah sleep in a chair. I’m like — I wake him up, ‘Yo, what’s up? What’s going on?’ He was like, ‘Nah, I’m just catching some rest.'”

All Raekwon could do was just laugh as Ghostface and Aaliyah continued their nap in a chair. Raekwon does admit that the bond between the two could’ve been just a great friendship.

Raekwon continued, “He respected Aaliyah. He really liked her and it could’ve been just some friendship thing. But, like I said, we liked Aaliyah’s music. We liked what she was doing and, yeah, I think they had a little crush thing going on. A little baby crush going on, you know?”
