Music From Dr. Dre, Whitney Houston, Selena And Tina Turner to Be Archived In The Library Of Congress

Dr. Dre’s The Chronic, Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You”, Selena’s Ven Conmigo and Tina Turner’s Private Dancer are among the songs and albums that will be archived in the Library of Congress, according to an announcement made by the National Recording Registry.

The picks were selected along with 21 other inductees based on what the registry deemed music for a “Stay at Home” Playlist in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Other inductees include the Village People and Fred Rogers of Mister Rogers fame.

“The National Recording Registry is the evolving playlist of the American soundscape. It reflects moments in history captured through the voices and sounds of the time,” said Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden. “We received over 800 nominations this year for culturally, historically or aesthetically significant recordings to add to the registry. As genres and formats continue to expand, the Library of Congress is committed to working with our many partners to preserve the sounds that have touched our hearts and shaped our culture.”
