Ice Cube Has A Message For Systemic Racism

Ice Cube has been keeping it extra spicy on Twitter. The no holds barred multi-hyphen talent has been posting his thoughts on the brewing upheaval of systemic racism throughout all industries and institutions. But, the writer, producer and actor was especially charged about doing away with the old Hollywood system.

The South Central Los Angeles rapper’s Twitter timeline is filled with very direct messages to the powers that be. Recent reports alleged that the rapper’s messages were anti-semitic in nature.

Critics even go so far as to say he has a history of being anti-semitic, chalking the evidence up to accusations of him trying to fight a rabbi in 2015, siding with the Nation of Islam’s Louis Farrakhan, and calling out Jerry Heller, who is Jewish, on “No Vaseline”.

But, the alleged rabbi fight became a tabloid with no concrete evidence surfacing. Just recently, Chelsea Handler posted a video in support of Louis Farrakhan’s realizations about white supremacy. Is she, too, anti-semitic?

Although Cube’s “No Vaseline” should be considered in context, people really want to extend his sentiments about Heller to the entire Jewish community. Yet, it’s apparent that he was pinpointing one person for his alleged corrupt business practices.

But then, Cube posted the “Freedom for Humanity”, a mural created by graffiti artist Mear One. The artist intended to use the mural to depict the one percenters or billionaires in the world profiting off of the backs of people of color.

However, in desperation for a tantalizing headline, some writers are claiming that the image is anti-semitic because the characters have “big, hooked noses and evil expressions” as ascribed to readers by the Daily Beast.

Indeed, the posts did seem slightly out of character, but then again, one listen to an Ice Cube record reveals that he’s been rapping about the unfair system for a while.

Confused fans thought that the superstar was having a breakdown or that his social media had been hacked. That was until Ice Cube quelled doubts with a post.

“This is CUBE. My account has not been hacked,” Cube posted. “I speak for no organization. I only speak for the meek people of thee earth. We will not expect crumbles from your table. We have to power of almighty God backing us all over the earth. NO MORE TALKING. Repent.”

Known for its implicit racial biases, the gatekeepers and shot callers of Hollywood have a history of proclaiming to be liberal embracers of progress and diversity in theory, but in practice, have greedily hogged top-level decision-making positions, played politics and nepotism at every turn, and manipulated and/or stole authentic stories from original storytellers for their own gain.

The micro-aggressions that riddle the underbelly of the Hollywood system have made it difficult for people of color, particularly black people, to maneuver in their true potential.

Ice Cube is no exception. Ice Cube has complained about the limitations he’s experienced in the industry. As one of the dopest and most relatable moviemakers of our time, Ice Cube has dealt with major studios giving him “the Heisman”, a dismissive dodging, all because of the color of his skin.

Fans have been dying for another Friday movie. Yet, the studios and production companies that could make the movie happen took so long to get behind the film that fan favorite John “Pops” Witherspoon passed away before the film could come to fruition.

Despite being marginalized by the entertainment industry, Ice Cube has enjoyed an incredible career in front of the camera and behind the scenes.

He’s delivered cult classics such as, The Players Club, Straight Outta Compton and the Friday franchise. Imagine what he could accomplish if he had the same financial and studio backing as Martin Scorsese, James Cameron, Ridley Scott, Christopher Nolan or Quentin Tarantino.
