Ebenezer Baptist Church’s Rev. Raphael Warnock Running For U.S. Senate

Rev. Raphael G. Warnock, senior pastor of the historic Ebenzer Baptist Church, is entering the race into a special election for U.S. Senate as a Democrat.

The church is most known for being the place where Martin Luther King Jr. made a name for himself. Warnock released a video to kickstart his campaign. In the video, he talks about growing up in a big family, living in the projects and learning the value of hard work.

“Some might ask why a pastor thinks he should serve in the Senate,” Warnock said. “Well, I’ve committed my whole life to service and helping people realize their highest potential. I’ve always thought that my impact doesn’t stop at the church door, that’s actually where it starts. I love this country and I believe that what makes America so great is that we always had a path to make it greater.”

Many are speculating that Warnock will be endorsed by Democrat Stacey Abrams as the reverend goes against U.S. Senate Kelly Loeffler. Congressman and Republican Doug Collins is also going for the U.S. Senate bid.

Warnock is planning to stay in his leadership position at Ebenezer Baptist Church, a role that he has maintained since 2005, while pursuing his political objectives.

His career record shows contributions to the state of Georgia by leading initiatives in improved voter registration drives, criminal justice and prison reform, and healthcare access.
