Bella Murphy Makes Acting Debut In ‘Coming 2 America’ As Akeem’s Daughter, A Role She Auditioned For

Look out Hollywood, a new beau of Tinseltown has entered the foray.  Bella Murphy, 19, will be starring in her first feature film with the premiere of Coming 2 America on March 5.  The real-life daughter of Eddie Murphy, 59, didn’t get the role of Omma, King Akeem’s daughter in the pic, through nepotism, either. According to her father, Bella had to audition just like some of the other actors.

“She had to audition for Craig Brewer, who directed the movie,” Murphy said.  “I wasn’t muscling my kid into the movie. She had to really be able to, you know, to deliver. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have gotten the role.”

Bella’s entry into the film will be her acting debut.  She will star alongside some major heavy hitters, including James Earl Jones, Wesley Snipes, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Arsenio Hall, Louie Anderson and Leslie Jones, to name a few.

Bella admits it was important for her to not be labeled as another privileged heir that acquired her opportunities because she’s the daughter of Hollywood royalty.

“I just wanted to be good,” Bella said.  “I didn’t want people to watch it and be like, ‘Oh, that must be his daughter ‘cause she can’t keep up with everyone else.’ You know what I mean?  I just really wanted to do the best that I could — and I’m really proud with how it turned out.”

Coming 2 America will premiere March 5 on the streaming platform Amazon Prime.
