‘A Quiet Place’ Franchise Makes Some Sound Waves With Latest Casting Choice For Spinoff

Guess who’s coming to the A Quiet Place franchise? Actress Lupita Nyong’o has been officially cast to star in a spinoff of the fast-evolving cult favorite. Details of other casting choices have yet to be revealed.

It’s a full-circle moment for the Oscar-winning actress who first collaborated with the Viacom-turned-Paramount Global conglomerate on the Kenya based MTV television series, Shuga, where she appeared on five episodes. Since then, she managed to earn an Oscar for her performance in her first feature film, 12 Years a Slave, release in 2013, and appear in the Marvel box office hit, Black Panther, Jordan Peele’s Us, and a couple of Jay-Z and Beyonce music videos.

Specifics about Nyong’o’s role in A Quiet Place: Day One is still under wraps. Michael Sarnoski, who made his feature film directorial debut with the 2021 film Pig, is set to direct the screenplay penned by Mud writer, Jeff Nichols.

The spinoff is derived from the origin films starring Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe, and John Krasinski, who also directed the first and second installments in the franchise. A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II were written by Kransinski, Scott Beck, and Bryan Woods.

The franchise has been an instant hit for Paramount Pictures. To date, A Quiet Place opened at $50.2M and has amassed $340.9M worldwide, with $188M earned in the U.S., all from a rumored starting budget of $17M. Talk about return on investment. A Quiet Place Part II released two years later in 2021 with exceptional performance despite a roaring global public health crisis. The film opened at $47.5M domestically, earning a worldwide total of $297.4M.

A Quiet Place: Day One will be in theaters on March 8, 2024.
