Will Someone Put Nicki Minaj In A Crime Drama Already? Teams Up With Lil Baby For “Do We Have A Problem?”

It may be a bit offensive to say that Nicki Minaj is making a comeback. Subscribing to the pretentious and fickle flash-in-a-pan trendiness that builds a celeb up one day only to bring them down the next for no real reason except idolization fatigue is not exactly productive to the upward mobility of society.

A true student of the hip hop art form, Minaj has quality bars and knows how to deliver with an exceptional confidence that is not elementary or prehistoric. In an alternate universe, her talent would be enough. Because of the Internet she has to compete with the usual hip hop adornments that involves a visually stimulating music video — and stimulates she does.

In a collaboration with Lil Baby for her single “Do We Have A Problem?,” Minaj has all the lyrical ammunition necessary for a fiery reprising of her hip hop crown after some time off. The official music video, directed by longtime industry veteran Benny Boom and edited by Andre “Dre” Jones, features the Barbs icon tapping into her inner actress as she does her own rendition of a crime drama.

Actor Joseph Sikora, who plays Tommy on the Power series, adds a nice touch as Minaj’s partner, Detective Flaunt. Centered around a high-profile auction, Minaj is part of an undercover plot that lands her on the wrong side of the law.

Obviously, Minaj has a thing for television and film. At one point, she references the 1990s female-driven, heist film Set It Off as she points a weapon at her oblivious partner while saying, “What’s the f–king procedure when you have a f–king gun to your head?” Vivica A. Fox originally repeated the phrase in a climatic scene of the classic pic.

Minaj definitely has an acting bug and could easily fit in on quite a few series. So, what is Hollywood waiting for? Check out the video yourself:
