The Retelling Of The Ultimate Sisterhood Film, ‘The Color Purple,’ Starring A Stellar Cast

Moviegoers will have something to look forward to in the theaters this Christmas. Warner Bros. Pictures released the official trailer for The Color Purple early on Tuesday.

The much-anticipated film is a musical adaptation that retells the galvanizing story of Celie, an abused woman separated from her sister who endures mistreatment in the rural south during the early 1900s. The screenplay is written by Marcus Gardley (The Chi), and based on the Alice Walker novel of the same name and the musical stage play by Marsha Norman.

The Color Purple reboot comes with a stellar cast that includes Halle Bailey (The Little Mermaid) as Nettie, Taraji P. Henson (Hidden Figures) as Shug Avery, Colman Domingo (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom) as Mister, Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton) as Harpo, and H.E.R. (Judas and the Black Messiah) as Squeak.

Fantasia Barrino reprises her role as the adult version of Celie from the 2005 Broadway adaptation, while Danielle Brooks reprises the role of Sofia from the Broadway Revival of The Color Purple a decade later.
