The MouthSoap Playlist: Ayra Starr Preps, Lil Baby Debuts, Beyonce Is A Mainstay, And Jimmy Makes An Impression “9 Ways”

The MouthSoap Playlist has a new set of entries scorching the “People’s Chart” that may not have made it to mainstream just yet, but definitely deserves the big stepper treatment. Meanwhile, Lil Baby and Beyoncé are among the bigger artists that we are subscribing to right now. In no particular ranking order, The MouthSoap team breaks down what we’re listening to in our transports around the city. Peep game.

GloRilla & Cardi B – “Tomorrow 2

A month out the bando, GloRilla and Cardi B blessed the streets with the sequel single, “Tomorrow 2,” a follow up to GloRilla’s “Tomorrow” and the viral single “F.N.F. (Let’s Go).” The highly successful song is the leading single off of GloRilla’s debut studio album, Anyways, Life’s Great…, a project backed by CMG and Interscope Records.

Jimmy – “9 Ways”

Every once in a while, an artist will make a song that transcends the boundaries of state lines and continents. The UK drill rapper, Jimmy, gives us nine reasons for him to be on our playlist with “9 Ways,” a summer single from his album, Risk It All. Produced by Eight8 and OrWot, “9 Ways” spotlights Jimmy’s effortless lyrical ability to glide over melodic productions and instantly make classics that represent for hoods across the globe.

Ice Spice – “Munch”

We like what the cinnamon blonde head, Ice Spice, is talking about. Despite being hated on for her skin color, all while loved for her unique look — people can’t make up their minds — her viral anthem, “Munch,” catapulted the Bronx rapper into the limelight with catchy, female empowering lyrics. Interestingly enough, with “Munch” and a few other popular singles, “No Clarity,” “Name of Love,” and “Euphoric,” to name a few, Ice Spice is still an independent artist, but we’re guessing not for long.

Lyfë – “Krank”

It may be challenging to understand the impact of Lyfë’s Yeat project at first listen. But, “Krank” that album up a couple of times and you will find that Lyfë applies that pressure. It starts with the reckless production (the man can’t pick a boring beat), along with his innovative ad lib game and confident lyrical output, and there lies some of the best riding music this quarter. Our picks from the Geffen Records/Field Trip Recordings project are “Flawless” featuring Lil Uzi Vert, “Wat It Feel Lyke,” and staff favorites, “Out the Way” and “Krank.”

SleazyWorld Go & Lil Baby – “Sleazy Flow”

The influence of SleazyWorld Go is still going nearly half a year after the debut of his single, “Sleazy Flow (Remix),” featuring Lil Baby. The song is still in the top 20 videos on YouTube and has charted 40 million-plus views. A follow up to the 2021 single, “Sleazy Flow,” the Missouri-based rapper went viral in 2022 and signed with Universal Music’s Island Records. His latest single is the grimy, street-inspired, “Creepers,” released in early Oct.

Lil Baby & Young Thug – “Never Hating”

Just like Lil Baby, we’re “Never Hating.” Lil Baby is the crème de la crème of rap right now and his fresh studio album, It’s Only Me, is further evidence of his supreme reign. The 23-track Quality Control/Motown project offers listeners a variety of songs to favorite, and out the gate, The MouthSoap is feeling the Young Thug collab, “Never Hating,” in addition to the intro, “Real Spill,” the Nardo Wick laced “Pop Out,” “In A Minute,” and “From Now On,” featuring Future.

IAMDDB – “F***KED UPPP”

IAMDDB’s rowdy single, “F***KED UPPP,” should’ve been the anthem for the whole Jada Pinkett, Will Smith, and Chris Rock Oscar debacle. With lyrics like, “B*tch, keep my name out your mouth,” and “Don’t be talking reckless on my name…show some respect my ‘G,'” the UK artist simplifies her stance with the energized lyrics for “the people in the back.” The single released Sept. 30, distributed by WAEV Entertainment. Although we have not received a full-length album from IAMDDB since 2019, the Angolan artist has been dropping singles to keep fans interested.

Kee Riche$ & Rucci – “F*ck A Friend”

In memoriam of South Central Los Angeles rapper, Kee Riche$, we add his groundbreaking project Get Rich to The MouthSoap Playlist. Our particular fave from the 2017 indie album is the Rucci assisted track, “F*ck A Friend.” With a classic Cali production and a reference to 50 Cent’s “Many Men,” “F*ck A Friend” was a window into Kee Riche$ mainstream appeal and a sure sign that the entrepreneurial rapper had a promising future. Fast forward to 2022, Kee Riche$ is another fallen rapper victim to the streets. Yet, as he wanted, his legacy lives on through the albums, From Broke to Rich, Bossriche$, 1342, and the Easy Money album sagas. RIP.

Ayra Starr & Kelly Rowland – “Bloody Samaritan (Remix)”

Ayra Starr’s 2021 studio debut, 19 & Dangerous, was our first introduction to the former social media cover artist. Known for her heartfelt, rhythmic tunes, bridging Afro Beats with Nigerian pop, Ayra Starr impressed us with songs like, “Toxic,’ and the addictive “Karma.” Leading the re-release of 19 & Dangerous (Deluxe) is the spicy clap back single “Bloody Samaritan (Remix),” featuring Kelly Rowland.

Beyoncé – “CUFF IT”

Rounding out The MouthSoap Playlist is Beyoncé’s playful vibe, “CUFF IT,” from her summer release, Renaissance. Brimming with optimistic, full-band production and a catchy hook, “CUFF IT” is the perfect song for social gatherings and TikTok videos. The-Dream, Raphael Saadiq, and Nova Wav are among the producers for this dance track, which is Beyoncé’s follow up to her equally addictive summer single, “Break My Soul.” The Parkwood/Columbia artist will continue to be a mainstay on the playlist until we get that Act 2.
