The Math: Kanye West’s 10th No. 1 Album ‘Donda’ Breaks Records With 85% Of The Songs Charting

Kanye West’s tenth studio album, Donda, is speaking louder than the drama surrounding it. The G.O.O.D. Music and Def Jam project has afforded West huge gains on the charts, moving the “Touch The Sky” rapper from a ranking of No. 67 to No. 1 on the Billboard Artist 100 chart.

The 27-track album landed in the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart, making Donda his 10th No.1 album, and beating out fellow peers Halsey, Olivia Rodrigo, and Doja Cat. Not surprisingly, some of the standout tracks are consuming Billboard’s Hot 100 chart as well, including “Hurricane” debuting at No. 6, “Jail” at No. 10, “Off The Grid” at No. 11, “Ok Ok” at No. 12, “Junya” at No. 16, “Moon” at No. 17, and “Praise God” at No. 20.

“Jesus Lord,” “Jonah,” “Believe What I Say,” and “God Breathed” all made it in the top 30. In total, West has 23 songs, or 85% of his album, on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It’s a sweet victory for West, who has made every eccentric effort, such as arena-filled listening parties and highly publicized riffs, to bring recognition to the project dedicated to his late mother, Donda West.

Mike Dean, a producer that worked on Donda, described what it was like to work on the album.

“It was grueling, lots of hours, lots of changes. It came out great though,” Dean said in an interview with Apple Music.  “He took all the information he got from everyone, including online reviews, personal friends’ reviews, and he’d just kind of digest it all and adjust the album the way he wants.”
