‘The Boondocks’ Producer Reginald Hudlin Becomes First Black Executive Producer Of Emmy Awards

Reginald Hudlin is set to be the first black executive producer of the Emmy Awards. The House Party filmmaker will be collaborating with host Jimmy Kimmel and longtime Emmy producers Done+Dusted, consisting of Ian Stewart, Guy Carrington and David Jammy.

“Each year Done+Dusted has produced the Emmys, they’ve brought new ideas and a great collaborative spirit, and with the addition of Reggie Hudlin, it promises to be a truly exceptional night,” Frank Scherma, the CEO and chairman of the Television Academy, said. “In this year of tremendous challenge, we look forward to the joint team innovating even more, delivering a reimagined Emmys to honor the exceptional television that has brought us together while we’ve had to remain apart.”

Hudlin has been in the industry for over three decades delivering some of the best content for black audiences, including Boomerang (1992), Marshall starring Chadwick Boseman and Netflix’s The Black Godfather.

He also has served as the President of Entertainment at BET Networks where he helped bring Aaron McGruder’s cult classic animation The Boondocks to a mainstream audience.

He is credited with executive producing the NAACP Image Awards and the Oscars.

“I’m excited to collaborate with this outstanding team as we produce a show that celebrates the best of what we do and reflects this moment in history,” Hudlin said in a statement.

The 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards will air on Sunday, September 20 on ABC.
