Teyana Taylor To Direct First Feature, ‘Get Lite,’ Starring Storm Reid

Teyana Taylor is the epitome of dreaming another dream when it’s time for reinvention. The multi-hyphen talent has dazzled fans with her brazen fashion choices, impeccable dance moves, and highly underrated music. Even before the music industry started to shift from middle-man dependent to the wild, wild west of the Internet, Taylor had the foresight to reinvent herself through film.

Her journey into directing started with her taking the reins on her own music videos, and over time, she mastered the skill and built a solid portfolio that included completed projects for Chris Brown, Macy Gray, Lil Durk, Queen Naija, Doja Cat, and Diddy.

Her next endeavor, directing an Eric Gross screenplay called Get Lite, places her in a lane not commonly occupied by peers from her music background. Get Lite is a music-centric story following a New York academic who joins a dance crew headed by a love interest, played by Storm Reid, with a beat-making talent.

Taylor will executive produce, while Coco Gilbert — who is credited with producing a iHeartRadio Music Award performance for rapper Latto, will co-produce the teen love story. Ani Weisband (Second Team), Bill Karesh’s OFFBRND, and Kenya Barris’ Khalabo Ink Society, along with Reid and Robyn Simpson of A Seed & Wings Productions, are collaborating to produce the film.

Distribution backing is provided by Paramount Pictures where the film is currently in development, according to a source at IndieWire.

Although day one fans of Taylor remember her from Stomp the Yard 2, she has upped the ante, showcasing her acting abilities in the basketball drama Hit the Floor, the Lee Daniels music drama series Star, a long-awaited Coming 2 America, A.V. Rockwell’s stunning A Thousand and One, where Taylor plays the lead role, and Jeymes Samuel comedy drama The Book of Clarence.

Storm Reid is also a force to be reckoned with, dazzling viewers with her performance in Euphoria and the innovative film Missing, starring Nia Long.
