T.I. Purchases Historic Atlanta Recording Studio

T.I. added to his entrepreneur portfolio with the recent purchase of the historic Atlanta recording studio Silent Sound Studios.

The studio is famous for being the landmark destination for artists such as, Whitney Houston, Babyface, Elton John and Justin Bieber.

Elliot Carter, studio engineer and business partner to T.I., considered the purchase a major win for the Bankhead rapper.

“This is my favorite, not only in Atlanta, but top three in the country,” said Carter. “Most engineers would probably agree. The quality of the room, the quality of the equipment…it’s 25 years old and sounds brand new. It’s just this space. No one builds these anymore.”

Under T.I.’s reign, the studio has been renamed Super Sound Studios. Artists will have access to a podcast room, mixing suite, and two recording rooms at Super Sound Studios.

“This was the only space that Tip wanted, with the heritage and quality and size of it,” said Carter. “There aren’t many of these left. The whole idea that Tip was involved in keeping the history with the studio, that’s really where I’m proud of being part of it.”

The studio used to be owned by the legendary songwriter Daryl Simmons who purchased the facility in 1996. LaFace Records, ran by L.A. Reid, would bring their artists to the studio to record during the record companies successful run.

In 2006, recording engineer Thom “TK” kIDD bought the studio and recently decided to sell the establishment to pursue other ventures.

Instead of letting 25 years of history-making music legacy go down the drain, T.I. hopped at the opportunity to own the studio.

“We were in the right time and right place,” Carter told media. “Tip wanted to keep the studio a studio. It’s 25 years of history. He didn’t want it to leave.”
