New NBC Series, ‘The Courtship,’ Helps People Find Love ‘Bridgerton’ Style

The new NBC dating series has borrowed the Regency-style aesthetic recently made popular by the Shondaland and Netflix series Bridgerton. In the reality series, suitors employ the formalities of courtship to win the heart of the one lone heroine.

The premiere will star Nicole Remy, who will be looking for love with one of 16 suitors in a grand castle. Remy will be accompanied by her mother Claire Spain-Remy, father Claude Remy, sister Danie Baker, and best friend Tessa Cleary. Rick Edwards will host the experimental reality show that will feature time-traveling games, carriage rides, and handwritten love letters.

“From carriage rides and masquerade balls, to archery, fencing and handwritten letters, Nicole and her pursuers swap modern-day sensibilities for grand-courting gestures of the past,” reads a statement from NBC. “Leaving the modern world behind presents its fair share of challenges for Nicole’s hopeful admirers, and the pressure builds when they discover that they must also get the seal of approval from her trusted Court.”

Previously, the series was called Pride & Prejudice: An Experiment in Romance with a release appointed on NBC’s streaming platform Peacock, but was ultimately changed in 2021 to The Courtship.

Executive producers include The Biggest Loser producer Shyam Balsé, Love Island producer Andy Cadman, The Circle producer Susy Price, and Lego Masters producers Anthony Dominici, Michael Heyerman, Sharon Levy, and D.J. Nurre.

The Courtship premieres Sunday, March 6, 2022 on NBC.
