Missy Elliott Celebrates 52 Years Around The Sun And Phenomenal Essence Fest Concert [Photos]

Since her 1997 debut with the charting album Supa Dupa Fly, Missy Elliott has always been the carrier of the “IT factor.” The innovative, platinum-selling artist continues to be on the cutting edge of creativity, even with six studio albums, one EP, and too many hit singles to count under her diamond-encrusted belt.

The Virginia-raised producer, rapper, and singer showed she still got it with a mind-blowing set at Essence Fest 2023 over the weekend. A very svelte Missy appeared on stage with a host of energetic dancers wearing colorful, futuristic outfits.

She gave the fans what they were hoping for as she performed her top hits, such as “One Minute Man,” “I’m Really Hot,” “Pass That Dutch,” “Lose Control,” “Get Ur Freak On,” and of course, “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly).” The concert was so hyped that at one point Missy ran into the audience to perform for the people in the back, a testament to Missy’s ability to relate to her diehard fanbase.

After the nearly one-hour Essence Fest performance, Missy enjoyed her 52nd birthday bash sponsored by Crown Royal Golden Apple. The event highlighted a futuristic theme with LED lit art and deco accented with purple, Missy’s favorite color. A menu of gourmet hors d’oeuvres and Golden Apple Aged 23 Years, a limited-edition, signature cocktail especially made in Missy’s honor by Crown Royal, were served to the guests.

The party brought out many of Missy’s friends and industry peers, including her longtime music manager Mona Scott-Young, Violator associate Yandy Smith, music producer Jermaine Dupri, industry legend Charlie Mack, actress Letoya Luckett, and P-Valley stars Tyler Leplay, Brandee Evans, and Nicco Annan, to name a few.
