Master P Talks About Having One Fan And Nobody Believing In Him

Rap and media mogul Master P went on T.I.’s new podcast ExpediTIously to discuss his career and the state of Hip Hop. In the interview, Master P said that he opened for Tupac. At the time, he only had one fan in the crowd rocking to his music. No one was really feeling him.

“In the beginning, nobody believed,” Master P told T.I. “They didn’t want to see me. I had one fan. I had one dude in the audience ’bout it, ’bout it. I said I’m going to take that one and turn that into millions and I did. I sold over 100 millions records independent.”

The Louisiana-bred rap star talks about how he invested in himself and put his own money upfront to get his independent business started. He didn’t wait for someone to jumpstart his career. Master P had to fail upward. He managed himself and negotiated his own deals and tours.

“Anybody that’s listening to this that want to be in the music business, don’t be afraid to take a fall or stumble ’cause it’s not over,” Master P said.

The legend, born Percy Miller, became one of the richest and most recognized rappers in entertainment when he took it upon himself to sell records out of the back of his trunk during his days in New Orleans.

Master P has mastered the art of diversifying his portfolio, knowing that the Hip Hop game is fickle.

Today, he has several companies and deals in motion. The multi-millionaire recently became the owner of independent wrestling promotion company House of Glory, which was launched in 2012 by Brian XL and Jonathan Figueroa aka The Amazing Red. Master P announced a week ago that he will be actively signing wrestlers and coming after WWE Chairman Vince McMahon’s spot. “Taking hip-hop to a whole different league,” the entrepreneur told the press. “Vince McMahon, you in trouble ’cause I’m about to take over wrestling.”

The godfather of independent Hip Hop film, Master P returned to the game of filmmaking with I Got The Hook Up 2, released in the summer and now available on streaming platforms.

Master P also maintains a music label, has his own shoe line, owns real estate and manages the careers of his children, which can all be seen on his new reality show Miller’s Family Treasures.
