‘Lovecraft Country’s’ Misha Green Moves From TV To Film To Direct Second Installment Of ‘Tomb Raider’

Multi-hyphen talent Misha Green is set to direct the second installment of action adventure film Tomb Raider. This will be Green’s feature film directorial debut as she comes fresh off the success of sci-fi thriller series Lovecraft Country where she is writer, executive producer and showrunner.

The first Tomb Raider, starring Alicia Vikander, released under Warner Bros. on March 16, 2018 to a domestic box office of $23.6 million and $274 million worldwide. MGM announced that Vikander will return as Lara Croft in the pic.

Angelina Jolie starred as the combat heroine in the 2001 version of the video game adapted film titled Lara Croft: Tomb Raider distributed by Paramount Pictures. The summer pic opened to $47.7 million over Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and grossed a worldwide box office of $274.7 million. The film would be followed by Paramount’s Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life grossing $160 million worldwide.

Green has been keeping busy. It was recently announced that she will be helming the screenplays for female-led action thriller The Mother and Cleopatra Jones, a remake of the 1973 version starring Tamara Dobson. Her hefty portfolio includes writing credits for Underground and Sons of Anarchy.

The new installment of Tomb Raider will be produced by The Cantillon Company’s Elizabeth Cantillon and GK Films’ Graham King.
