Lord Sonny the Unifier Etches A Visual Eulogy To Greed In Rock Banger “Pay The Man (When You Leave)”

Music videos present a beautiful opportunity to expand on the concept or feeling of a song.  It is a piece of art that enhances another by adding a layer of artist expression.  With that said, in the music visual for Lord Sonny the Unifier’s rock banger “Pay The Man (When You Leave),” it becomes more than clear that he and director Damien Paris wanted to manifest a creation that would enhance listeners’ experience, while simultaneously pushing the limits of contemporary alt rock. The result is a sleuth of fiery stories interconnected by satirical storytelling that contributes to its overall message about classism.

The visual opens on bandleader and vocalist Greg Jiritano planting the main plot’s seeds. In the video, Jiritano takes money and hires someone to track down a Wall Street broker with the intention to kill him. What was so intriguing about the narrative is the idea of money corrupting absolutely. The economic power someone holds being their main downfall is displayed quite literally throughout this video. Money is shoved down the Wall Street broker’s mouth, and it was the item that ensures his demise.

Through this thought process, the video has strong themes and a message that should be heeded; overindulgence of financial prowess will lead to your end. It is a moral that needs to be taken notice of more often.

Lord Sonny the Unifier demonstrates a keen ear for sonically appealing music through his thought-provoking “Pay The Man (When You Leave),” a progressive song that is treading new ground.  Although there are influences in his image reminiscent of Motörhead’s Lemmy Kilmister, his style and sound stands out as a uniquely crafted identity among rockers.

Rather than offer up a run-of-the-mill song pattern, Lord Sonny the Unifier opts for a more liberal approach that waivers with his emotional expression. It is through this mode of songwriting that Jiritano’s creation enters the realm of dynamic music-making. The combination of guitars, drums, and bass all add texture to a chaotic and energetic sound adding to the complex composition.  “Pay The Man (When You Leave)” will rattle the audience’s core, while also enticing them to put the song in constant rotation.

Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, Jiritano created Lord Sonny the Unifier out of a necessity to fulfill a lifelong dream after experiencing a series of adverse occurrences.  At the tender age of 12, Jiritano formed his first band, eventually making headway on the New York bar circuit. Years later, he would spend six years recording music in Massachusetts only for band members at that time to go their separate ways.

Upon returning to New York, his studio would burn down causing his career to come to a crossroads. He decided to buckle down and go full steam ahead with his songwriting.  He banded together with friends and Lord Sonny the Unifier came to fruition.
