Growing List Of Artists Announce Break From Music, Includes Pink, Summer Walker, A Boogie And More

The music industry is experiencing a literal breakdown. This year alone has been inundated with music stars announcing their breaks from the music industry. Artists have cited everything from anxiety to more family time as reasons for their breaks. The MouthSoap provides a list of the stars disappearing from the music scene, at least for the moment.

A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie

Rap star A Boogie went on Instagram to announce that he is considering a break from music following the promo tour of his latest project Artist 2.0. “This might be my last project for a while,” he posted. “I want to take a break from music after Artist 2.0 tour is over. There’s a lot of things I wanna do in life and it’s moving too fast for me to focus on everything at once.”

CupcakKe

Chicago rapper cited moral reasons for quitting music for good. She cancelled the rest of her summer tour. She went on social media to address the situation, “Recently, the past night and today, I just been sporadic and it’s because I wanted to get as much attention as possible to let y’all know that I will no longer be doing music,” she said. “All of my music will be coming off of every platform. “I just want out the music industry…I feel as though I’m corrupting them with my songs.”

Diddy

Diddy told Rolling Stone that he was currently in semi-retirement. “If you don’t see my name on all the Top 10 records, that means I’m not making music.” His philosophy on music, “I never was in it for the money…It’s all about the hit and only the song survives. Don’t be a sucker out here and make something that’s gonna be around for two years. They won’t remember your name.”

Ed Sheeran

Swooner Ed Sheeran announced a break from music after experiencing a string of issues, including a lawsuit from Marvin Gaye’s estate over copyright infringement and blocked royalties for his famous song ‘Shape of You’. “There is something very bittersweet about it. I love that you guys are here and we are ending it in Ipswich. This is my last gig for probably 18 months,” the red-head star said while on tour in Ipswich, England.

Justin Bieber

Bieber suffered from depression, anxiety and drug use causing him to announce a break from music earlier this year in March. “I’ve toured my whole teenage life, and early 20s, I realized and as you guys probably saw I was unhappy last tour and I don’t deserve that and you don’t deserve that. You pay money to come and have a lively energetic fun light concert and I was unable emotionally to give you that near the end of the tour.”

Kid Cudi

Kid Cudi wanted to focus on other things besides music, despite his fans eagerly waiting for new music from the Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’ artist. He is expected to drop music in 2020, according to some reports.

Lil Nas X

“Old Town (Remix)” rapper Lil Nas X recently won the award for Musical Event of the Year at the 2019 Country Music Awards. His appearance would be the first time he has been seen at an industry event since his September announcement that he would be taking a break after seven months of going hard in the music industry.

Lil Uzi Vert

Lil Uzi Vert became fed up with the music industry earlier this year when he posted on his Instagram story in January, “I wanna take the time out to say I thank each and every one of my supporters but I’m done with music…I deleted everything I wanna be normal…I wanna wake up in 2013.” Although he has dropped music projects since his post, but he did sit down with Rolling Stone to express that he makes music for his family, “I like making music, and I like making people happy, but the music is whatever, bro.” Uzi said. “I really do it just to make my family happy. Like, it’s just something for my family to talk about.” He still hasn’t confirmed if he will ever return to a full-time music career.

Nicki Minaj

Queen rapper Nicki Minaj announced her retirement from music to start a family. Recently married to Kenneth Petty, the star took to Twitter to let her fans know that she is out of the music game. “I’ve decided to retire & have my family. I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me.” Despite her announcement, Minaj will still have music released that she previously recorded.

Pink

Pink announced at the 53rd Country Music Awards that she will be taking a break from music to focus on her family. She said that with her children being back in school and her husband’s projects, 2020 will be the “year of the family”.

Summer Walker

Overnight sensation Summer Walker cancelled the second half of her first tour citing social anxiety. Fans went onto social media to complain about her behavior at meet and greets in which she seemed to be standoffish. Walker released the following statement, “As you know, I have been very open about my struggle with social anxiety. I want to continue to be healthy and to make music for y’all, so I have decided to cut down some of the dates on the tour. I hope you all can understand. I’m grateful for every single one of you, and I hope that you understand that wellness is important. All cancelled dates will be refunded.”
