DaBaby Admits He Still Doesn’t Have “2020” Vision With Celebratory Young Thug Assisted Music Visual “Blind”

Hardship is nothing new to rap stars DaBaby and Young Thugger. Both got it out the mud and now that they’ve attained a level in their music careers that many aspire to, the two rappers are spreading happy vibes with their new music visual “Blind.”

In the music video directed by Motion Family, DaBaby invites his “grandfather” to the set of his video. What unfolds is the elder having the time of his life with the ladies and stuntin’ like his grandson.

All the attributes that normally inhabit a hip hop music video are present — the money, car, jewelry and beautiful women. Listening to the lyrics, however, present a much more deeper meaning than the glittery things on the set.

DaBaby raps about his rise to hip hop fame, “Thankful that my head too hard for me to learn my lesson | ‘Cause the way I did it worked out fine, ooh, God you blessed me | Probably ain’t believe me | Know a n—a went through hell and back, now he finally on the TV | Now a n—a don’t even give a f–k no more, probably think it’s easy | Let you know it ain’t easy.”

Young Thug gives insight to his private life with his lay up. “I’ve been quarantined, livin’ with my kiddies | Tryna teach me how to cha-cha, ah | F—ed around, left the door open | Now they know that they can’t stop me | Don’t place me in no cop car | Yeah, I’m off probation, so it’s gas I blow | I found love in my b—h, so I don’t ask no more | I can really sit back, ain’t gotta pass no dough | All of my brothers get loot, I don’t gotta ride with pistols,” he raps.

DaBaby, born Jonathan Kirk, has continued to be one of the artists that have stayed on his grind. In 2020 alone, the North Carolina rapper has charted four times on Billboard with singles “Rockstar” featuring Roddy Ricch, and Jack Harlow’s “Whats Poppin,” Pop Smoke’s “For The Night,” and Dua Lipa’s “Levitating,” all in which he was featured on.

His rise to the top has been SpaceX level, but heavy is the head that holds the crown. Earlier in November, DaBaby tragically lost his older brother, Glenn Johnson, to suicide. Just before the video for “Blind” begins, a memorial message saying “Long Live G” in all white letters with a dove rests on a blacked out screen. This wouldn’t be the first time that he has dealt with death in his family. Just before his rise to fame, he lost his grandmother and father within a short amount of time. His father, John C. Kirk Jr., would pass away a few days before the start of his Baby on Baby Tour.

“I got a text message saying my Album was #3 on the charts then talked to my lil brother and found out my pops passed away out of nowhere and my shit went #1 on the charts out of nowhere,” he posted on Instagramin 2019. “My biggest loss and my biggest win at the same time. Errthang they love about me I learned from you.”

With all of the tribulations DaBaby has endured, “Blind” is a solid celebration of his current eminence, all while hinting to fans that he’s still human and in 2020 — where people predicted perfect vision — he still feels he’s blind.
