Claressa Shields, Greatest Women’s Boxer Of All-Time, Challenges Savannah Marshall After Glorious Pay-Per-View Win

Claressa Shields dominated in the 10-round Junior Middleweight fight against Marie-Eve Dicaire at the Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center in Flint, Michigan on Friday. The fight was part of an all-female pay-per-view lineup. Crowned the greatest women’s boxer of all-time (GWOAT), the win gave Shields, 25, the title of becoming the first boxer to conquer two weight classes as an undisputed champion. At the present moment, Shields record shows 11 wins, no losses and two KOs.

Shields has been causing a stir in the boxing world. Not only is she an advocate for female fighters — she has been very vocal about the pay inequality between female and male fighters despite female fighters having impressive performances — but she also has a personality to suit the performance. When asked about opponent Savannah Marshall, the only fight that has defeated Shields, Shields didn’t hold back.

“Savannah Marshall can’t f— with me,” Shields said in an interview after the Friday fight. “Let’s keep it real. Let’s keep it real. Like, I wanna say something cuz I know she out there watching – Savannah Marshall, you won a lucky decision when we was kids. I was 17. Also, London was hosting the Olympics [two months later]. She know if you wanna gloat about you beating me, eight points to 14, come on, now. And then you let me become champion in three different weight classes, and you pro?”

Marshall, 29, beat Shields in 2012 at an Olympic qualification tournament, winning with a 14-8 decision. She will be making her debut in the WBO middleweight world on April 10. Shields, who has been known to move across weight classes to defeat opponents, doesn’t plan on backing down from Marshall should the fighter gain the courage to meet her in the ring.

“How come she ain’t fight me for all the belts at 160?,” Shields asked. “Why she wanna fight for a vacant title? Cuz she’s scared of me. Exactly. Exactly. I’ve been wantin’ smoke for years. Savannah Marshall can get it. And tell Eddie Hearn [Marshall’s promoter] he came with that whack-ass $250,000. Tell him he better come with $500K, $750,000, if he want me to come over there to the UK to smoke his girl. Pay me!”
