Game Of Rap Thrones: Saweetie’s Quietly Making Major Moves, But We See Her

Say what you want about Saweetie, one thing that can’t be denied is that the “Best Friend” rapper knows how to boss up. In an industry where it’s commonplace for media to size women up as just sexual objects or arm candy to another celebrity — by the way, it’s so annoying when the only things that some media outlets report on when it comes to female entertainers are their new hairstyles, shoes, or outfits…we have to do better — Saweetie is changing the tide with a series of major moves.

From her entrepreneurial endeavors to her non-profit venture, here are Saweetie’s latest boss moves (other rappers take note):

Saweetie Upgrades Her Management Team

The Bay Area rapper transitioned from being managed by her uncle, Louis Burrell, to signing a new management deal with Brandon Creed of Full Stop Management. It’s a notable step up in the game of entertainment given that Creed also represents Lizzo, Mark Ronson, Orville Peck, and Charli XCX.

Saweetie Turns Her Foodie Ways Into Profits

No one can forget Saweetie’s interesting collaboration with McDonald’s where the franchise created a special “Saweetie Meal,” consisting of nuggets, a Big Mac, fries, and Sprite soda with Tangy BBQ and Sweet ‘N Sour sauces. Now, playing on the same premise of food, Saweetie has joined salad dressing company Hidden Valley in creating ranch-inspired Crocs, that comes in a beige color sprinkled with hints of green. The limited edition Crocs will come with nine Jibbitz charms made to look like different dipping treats, such as wings, veggies, fries, and tacos.

Saweetie Is Booked & Busy With Scheduled Performances

Recently, The Breakfast Club, with Angela Yee, DJ Envy, and Charlamagne Tha God, announced that New York’s Power 105.1 radio station will be bringing back its annual music event 2021 Powerhouse. Saweetie was named as one of the only female performers on the bill, so far. She’s set to perform among hip hop peers Moneybagg Yo, Polo G, Capelle Grey, DJ Spinking, and her ex-boyfriend’s hip hop group Migos, who are the headliners. Even though she is bound to run into Quavo at the event, that has not deterred the self-made boss from taking on the booking. Powerhouse is set to take place at the Prudential Center on Sunday, Nov. 21st.

Saweetie Teams Up With Sex Guru Dr. Ruth On Netflix Show

Saweetie parlayed into the content creation game when she launched her YouTube series The Icy Life and Icy University tackling different subjects on self-esteem, relationships, business, and more. So, it only made sense for her to make her way into the TV and film realm. The “Tap In” rapper joined forces with sex guru Dr. Ruth Westheimer to develop a Netflix special about sex positivity. Saweetie will host the show, as well as conduct segments with a variety of commentators.

Saweetie Flips Her Beauty Into A Hustle

Every time we see Saweetie, she always presents herself in the most glamorous way. It didn’t take long for beauty brands to recognize that in the rising superstar. Her daily care regimen led to opportunities for her to be a brand ambassador for Morphe and now, M.A.C. Cosmetics. She also reps the nail polish brand Sinful Colors, where she curated a special edition Tulle Temptation Sheer Matte collection.

Saweetie Pays It Forward

One of the most honorable things that Saweetie has done was create the non-profit organization Icy Baby Foundation. The foundation’s goal is to empower young people from Black, Brown, and underserved communities by providing resources in technology, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy. Currently, the foundation serves Los Angeles, Sacramento, Oakland, Las Vegas, and the Philippines.
