Astroworld Festival Halts After Multiple People Die From Massive Trampling

It’s so unfortunate when a few people ruin what is supposed to be a great experience for many. Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival, taking place at NRG Park in Houston, Texas, came to a screeching halt after eight people died on the first day of the music segment of the festival on Friday (Nov. 5).

Authorities report that there were at least 50,000 attendees when the crowd began to push and shove towards the front of the stage around 9:15 p.m. CST.

“It seemed like it happened over the course of just a few minutes,” said a HPD officer. “Suddenly we had several people down on the ground experiencing some type of cardiac arrest or medical episode and so we immediately started doing CPR and moving people.”

Medical assistance was on standby, along with 360 police officers and 241 security officers, according to Troy Finner, Houston Police Chief. Travis Scott stopped his performance a few times to address the constant pushing, even calling for medics and law enforcement personnel to assist.

“We need somebody to help. Somebody passed out right here,” Scott said on video during his set with rapper Drake. “Security, somebody, jump in here real quick.”

About 300 people needed help, 23 were transported to a nearby hospital, and eight people were declared dead.

As a result, the festival was ended early on Friday and Saturday’s performances were canceled. An investigation is ongoing.

“I’m absolutely devastated by what took place last night. My prayers go out to the families and all those impacted by what happened at Astroworld Festival,” Scott posted to Twitter. “Love You All.”
