J.J. Abrams went on Good Morning America on Monday (Nov. 25) to talk about upcoming film Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker when he admitted that one of the cast members lost the script and it ended up on eBay.
Abrams refused to tell host Michael Strahan which cast member was responsible. One by one, cast members who visited the show denied being the ones who lost the script.
On Wednesday (Nov. 27), Strahan asked actor John Boyega was it him that caused the script to be placed on eBay. Boyega came clean, saying that he had put the script under his bed while he was in the middle of moving apartments.
“What had happened was…it was actually from my apartment. I was moving apartments and I left the script under my bed,” Boyega said. “I was just like, you know what, I’ll leave it under my bed. When I wake up in the morning I’ll take it and move, but then my boys came over and, then we started partying a little bit and then the script just, it just stayed there.”
The cleaning employee tried to sell the script on eBay for 65 pounds or $85 USD. Boyega continued, “Then a few weeks after this cleaner comes in, finds the script and then puts it on eBay for like 65 pounds. So the person didn’t know the true value.”
Boyega can laugh about it now, but he said the experience was scary. Eventually, the script was retained by a Disney employee who saw it for sale on eBay.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the last Star Wars in the franchise, will be in theatres on Dec. 20.
